A South Seattle daycare owner has raised concerns about illegal encampments returning to the area after months of improvement were seen. As of late, these encampments have led to violence, including a recent stabbing where a man was found bleeding just steps away from her school in Mount Baker.

As a remedy, Mayor Katie Wilson set a goal of 500 new tiny homes across the city to move homeless individuals off the street. Gee Scott, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, likened the City of Seattle to the Seahawks offensive line, highlighting that Seattle’s children must be treated like a quarterback and protected at all costs.

“No encampments next to schools, hard stop. I don’t want to hear about help on the way,” Gee said. “As a matter of fact, if you really want to talk that talk, anybody in that’s a public service. Show me where your kids go to school, show me. If there’s an encampment next to your child care center, I tell you what, I’ll stand corrected.

“Our babies in Seattle, and all over, are the quarterback. The city is the offensive line,” Gee continued. “Protect the babies. I don’t want to hear any excuses. We all have a heart for people unhoused well, some of us do, but full stop encampments next to schools.”

Ursula said not all encampments are created equal, citing a sanctioned camp near her own neighborhood as proof that the model can work.

“I want to point out there’s also a sanctioned encampment nearby, which is Tent City Three. Now, we’ve had some of these tent cities, even in my neighborhood. One of the things that they offer is services and support, and I think that model actually does work,” Ursula said. “We were worried when it came up, and it was in a parking lot of a church near our home. But I don’t remember that there were any problems associated. Why? Because they offer services and support. It’s just popping up the tents and having them anywhere that just cannot be allowed.”
