Judge Sean O'Donnell: "Judges Are a Check on Power, Not an Accelerant"
King County Superior Court Judge Sean O'Donnell joins John Curley in the final days before the election to warn that a late flood of outside money — more than $1.5 million in attack ads — threatens to turn Washington's judicial races into partisan contests permanently.
O'Donnell says that within 72 hours of a Public Disclosure Commission decision not to enforce contribution limits on independent expenditure groups during voting, more than $300,000 went to a group supporting his opponent, followed by roughly 300,000 mailers. He questions why the PDC made the change while ballots were already in people's hands.
