Obliteride Returns to Seattle
Thousands of cyclists, walkers, runners, volunteers, and general supporters are coming together on Aug. 8 for the Fred Hutch Cancer Center’s annual Obliteride fundraiser, which supports cancer research. The weekend begins with a Friday-night party at Gas Works Park from 4-8 p.m. featuring live music, dinner, and activities before Saturday’s main event, which includes a 5K and a 25- to 100-mile bike ride starting at the University of Washington and finishing at Gas Works Park. For 14 years, Obliteride has raised more than $67 million to support cancer research, with 100% of participant-raised funds going toward breakthroughs in cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and cures. Come Aug. 8, locals and visitors alike can plan to spend a day exploring local history, art, and, culture without paying admission at several Pierce Country museums in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. Participating organizations include the Museum of Glass, the DuPont Historical Society, the Karshner Museum, LeMay Collections at Marymount, the Steilacoom Historical Society, and many others. Get Ready for the Seattle Tattoo Expo
More than 250 tattoo artists from around the world will gather at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall Aug. 14-16 for the Seattle Tattoo Expo. Throughout the weekend, visitors can watch live tattooing; browse vendor booths; and catch tattoo contests, live entertainment, and other events taking place each day. Browse Local Finds at The Market on Sixth Ave
Tacoma’s The Market on 6th Ave is returning from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 8. Local artists, makers, and small businesses will be set up along the avenue’s corridor with handmade goods, artwork, crafts, and other unique finds.
