One person killed, another injured from tree falling on vehicle near Carnation

A woman was killed Saturday when a tree fell on a vehicle on State Route 203, north of Carnation.
The woman was a passenger in a mini-SUV, one of two people in a Subaru Forester headed south on SR 203, also known as Carnation Duvall Rd. N.E.
The vehicle was hit by a tree just after 1:00 p.m.
The tree fell across the highway about halfway between Carnation and Duvall, near Fay Rd. N.E.
Troopers say it broke apart on impact when it struck the Subaru.
The driver of the Subaru, a 49-year-old Skykomish man, was also badly hurt.
He suffered life-threatening injuries, and had to be had to be airlifted to a hospital.
The SUV came to rest against a guardrail and blocked the southbound lane of the two-lane highway.
Investigators with the Washington State Patrol say after the tree toppled onto the SUV, another vehicle, a Chevy Silverado pickup, traveling northbound in the opposite direction, also hit the tree.
Two adults and two children, all from Woodway, Washington, were in the pickup, but none was hurt.
The Silverado came to rest in the northbound lane.
The crash blocked the highway in both directions for three and a half hours.
Officials from Eastside Fire & Rescue posted some information about the deadly collision on X, along with photographs of the scene.

Photos taken by first responders showed power lines knocked to the ground from the fallen tree.
“One person has died as a result on the impact, a second is being airlifted to an area hospital with life threatening injuries,” Eastside Fire posted on X.
The state patrol reported the driver of the Subaru was wearing a seatbelt, but the woman killed was not.
The Redmond Fire Department also assisted in the crash response.
