During the final heat of the Albert Lee Appliance Cup at Seafair on Sunday, a hydroplane flipped high in the air over Lake Washington after it was cut off by another boat’s wake. On-board footage shows the Oberto craft travelling at 160 mph before flipping over 60 feet in the air and landing right-side up. Driver Cal Phipps was uninjured.
The final heat was re-run, and the victory went to Andrew Tate in his Les Schwab hydroplane after driver Jimmy Shane was assessed a penalty.
