The Pierce County Sheriff used about a dozen cruisers to block off an area around 76th and J Streets near the middle school.
The incident began around 11 a.m. when a Pierce County deputy pulled over a man driving a reportedly stolen car. The sheriff’s office reports that the man reached for a gun and the deputy opened fire.
A short chase followed as the suspect fled to a nearby shed.
Two other suspects involved in the incident were also taken into custody.
