‘Our community was shaken’: Lynnwood mayor responds after 15-year-old shot at park

Following the shooting of a 15-year-old high school student at Lynnwood’s Meadowdale Park last week, the mayor of Lynnwood, George Hurst, released a statement on the incident.

In Hurst’s statement, he condemned that kind of brutality in the city that is having an impact on the youth and reaffirmed that “violence is never acceptable,” according to KIRO 7.

“On Friday afternoon, our community was shaken by an act of violence after a shooting at Meadowdale Park that left one person injured. My thoughts are with the victim, a Meadowdale High School student, and I wish him a swift and complete recovery.

Violence is never acceptable, yet it continues to impact the youth of our City. We must work together as a community to address the root causes of this type of brutality in Lynnwood.

I want to express my gratitude to our Police Detectives for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to resolve this case. 15-year-old shot at Lynnwood park, suspect remains at large

A 15-year-old Lynnwood teenager is recovering at Harborview after police said he was shot twice at Lynnwood’s Meadowdale Park on Friday.

Police said it happened about 1:30 p.m., as school was letting out near 168th Street S.W., according to the Lynnwood Police Department.

An argument led to gunfire and a dozen kids running for cover.

The victim was hit twice in the leg and in the torso.

“The person who actually got hit fled on foot and was located a couple of blocks away,” Lynnwood Police Commander Joe Dickinson told KIRO Newsradio. “He’s been transported, I think, to Harborview, and he’s in stable condition.”

The shooter remains at large as of this reporting. Officers told KIRO 7 that there were several leads, though no suspect information could be formally reported.

Edmonds School District responds to Meadowdale Park shooting

The Edmonds School District sent a message to parents with kids in the district, stating that the safety of children remains a top priority.

“We know that hearing about an incident like this can be upsetting for students, families, and staff. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we are grateful for the quick response from law enforcement and for the cooperation of our school community during the lockdowns. We will continue to work with the Lynnwood Police Department as they investigate this incident.

We encourage families to check in with their students this evening, as they may have questions or feelings about what happened. School counselors will be available on Monday for any students who would like to talk or need additional support.”
