Battery Street Tunnel closures this week

Apr 24, 2013, 8:28 AM | Updated: 8:30 am

The Battery Street Tunnel will be closed a couple more nights this week.

Jan Katzenberger, with the Washington Department of Transporation, says the closures will be between Denny Way and Elliott Avenue.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, lanes in both directions will be closed. On Thursday, just the southbound lanes will be closed.

Lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday morning. The closure is linked to the waterfront tunnel construction.

“What we’re doing is we’re placing monitors along the tunnel route so we can detect even the smallest ground movement,” says Katzenberger.

KIRO Radio Reporter Tim Haeck contributed to this report.
