5 best spots to see New Year’s fireworks off Seattle’s Space Needle

Dec 30, 2014, 12:41 PM | Updated: Dec 31, 2014, 11:10 am

Of course, our number one location is from below the Space Needle itself. When the clock strikes midnight and you're bidding adieu to 2014, just look up for the seven-minute show. Kerry Park is famous for its postcard view of the Space Needle, but the park isn't one of Seattle's biggest. Standing room only fills up fast as the clock winds down to midnight. Get there early to save your spot. Rain shouldn't be much of a problem for Fourth of July weekend. (AP) Bad news: Kite Hill at Gas Works Park is closed until May while crews restore turf, soil, and improve drainage. That doesn't mean your view of the NYE fireworks is obscured from the north Lake Union park. The east side of the park still provides a perfect, framed view of the Needle. If you get on the Bainbridge Island ferry bound for Seattle at 11:35 p.m. and take the 35-minute ride, you should arrive at the waterfront at 12:05 a.m. on January 1. And as you pull in, a spectacular fireworks show will greet you.

Editor's note: We haven't tried this one, so we can't guarantee it will work, but it should if the ferries are running on time and you schedule it just right.
