A funeral procession and public memorial for Tacoma officer Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez was held on Friday.

The memorial for the fallen Tacoma was at 1 p.m. in the Tacoma Dome. It was open to the public.

Officer Gutierrez, 45 and father of three, was killed responding to a domestic-violence call that came in Nov. 30.

After an hours-long standoff, the suspect was also killed.

Tacoma police spokesperson Loretta Cool said the community was grieving.

“I think the community has suffered a great loss,” Cool said.

Since the shooting, the police department has received the support of many.

“I don’t know how to put that into words other than everyone here appreciates the kind words and thoughts,” Cool said.

Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland offered her condolences to Gutierrez’s family and the police department.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Reginald ‘Jake’ Gutierrez,” she said.
