State Senator Dino Rossi has announced that he will combat a swarm of Democrats to replace the retiring Dave Reichert’s 8th District seat.

One of Rossi’s main campaign focuses will be fighting Sound Transit’s motor vehicle excise tax that raised car tab fees in Western Washington by as much as three times.

“All I am trying to do is defend the indefensible … anything I do in Congress is to make sure that Sound Transit is accountable to the people,” he told KTTH’s Jason Rantz Show.

Rossi has been no stranger to confronting Sound Transit in the past, and he will firmly remain in opposition of the ST3 light rail project.

“I’m not against transit, absolutely not. You can actually do a lot more with buses and van pools than you can with fixed rail, and the idea that they claim that this is ‘21st century technology,’ Oh my goodness. This is how the West was won. It’s from the 1890s!”

ST3 hopes to expand light rail from Lynnwood to Tacoma.

“21st century technology is what Elon Musk is doing,” Rossi argued.

The project will not be complete for more than 20 years. By then, Rossi predicts, advancements in transportation technology will include things like Elon Musk’s Hyperloop project and driverless cars.

“Our grandkids are going to be saying to us, ‘You really drove your own car? Why? Wasn’t that dangerous?'”

The primary election for the state’s 8th Congressional District will take place November 6, 2018.
