Governor Jay Inslee said on Thursday that he’s getting a hip replaced on Monday morning, which means he’ll be out of the office for at least a week.
“I am trading in a 1951 model hip joint for a 2019 model,” Inslee said in a statement from the governor’s office.
Secretary of State Kim Wyman will be acting governor from about 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. during the surgery and before the anesthesia wears off.
Because the timing of the surgery coincides with the budget rollout, state Budget Director David Schumacher will release Inslee’s proposed supplemental budget and policy proposals.
Inslee is not expected to return to a full schedule until early January.
