The last time the Seahawks took on the New Orleans Saints, the crowd noise at CenturyLink Field was at record-breaking levels.

Now in the playoffs, with the stakes even higher, should Seattle be going for another record? Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll says, why not?

“I don’t know why we’re not trying to set [a noise record ],” said Carroll, in an appearance on 710 ESPN’s Brock and Danny. “If we’ve set records in the regular season, aren’t there post-season records to be set, as well?”

An official from Guinness World Records recorded the crowd noise at 137.6 decibels during the Seahawks’ last victory over the Saints on Dec. 2.

Carroll is confident the Seahawks 12th Man will be in top form on Saturday when the Seahawks take on New Orleans at CenturyLink. “Our fans are extraordinary and I know they’ll be crazy.”

The team has been working to get the 12th Man advantage in the playoffs all season, Carroll says.

“I’ve been in anticipation of this since we got here … we set our sights on winning the division and owning that thing so that we could be in this position that we’re in right now.”

After clinching the division, it’s now up to the team and the fans to capitalize on the home-field advantage.

“It’s a great opportunity for us. It’s great for the Northwest. It’s great for the long-time fans that have been here waiting for these opportunities,” says Carroll. “They deserve it. They’ve earned it and they’re off the charts, obviously. So we’ll all come together and have a blast on Saturday.”

Guinness World Records and the Seahawks would have to approve another noise-record attempt.

The Guinness website says applications typically take up to six weeks to process, but can be fast tracked for a fee.

Kickoff is at 1:35 p.m. Pregame on 710 ESPN Seattle and KIRO Radio 97.3 FM begins at 10 a.m.
