Actor Patrick Dempsey says he wants to rescue a Seattle-based coffee house chain and more than 500 jobs.

Dempsey is leading a group attempting to buy Tully’s Coffee. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October. Any sale would have to be approved by a judge. A bankruptcy court hearing is set for next month in Seattle.

According to the New York Daily News, Dempsey has said he’s excited about the chance to help hundreds of workers and give back to Seattle.

There are 47 company-run Tully’s stores in Washington and California, five franchised stores and 58 licensed locations in the U.S.

Any sale of the company is still pending approval of a judge. A bankruptcy court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 11 in Seattle.

A heart to rescue Tulley’s isn’t Dempsey’s only tie to Seattle. He plays Dr. Derek Sheperd or “Dr. McDreamy,” on the ABC TV show “Grey’s Anatomy,” set in Seattle at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital.
