The Mercer Mess will be a lot messier than usual this week.

Work on the Mercer Corridor Project has been scheduled with an effort to avoid morning and afternoon rush hours, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.

The northbound right lane of SR 99 between Mercer and Valley streets will be closed between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for crews to complete concrete pours. One northbound lane will remain open at all times.

The right southbound lane on Fifth Avenue North between Mercer and Republican streets will be closed Monday and Tuesday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. for sidewalk work, but a southbound lane will remain open at all times.

The center lane of westbound Mercer Street between Taylor Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North will also be closed for sidewalk work at this time. One left turn lane and one through lane will remain open at all times.

Monday through Friday this week, the right lanes of eastbound and westbound Mercer Street between Dexter Avenue and Fifth Avenue North will be closed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. while crews work on underground utilities, install a new water main, and pour concrete. SDOT says one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

SDOT will begin work on pedestrian changes along Fifth Avenue North at Mercer and Republican streets Wednesday.
