Shoplifter attacks West Seattle store clerk with ukulele

Nov 29, 2012, 6:17 AM | Updated: 6:35 am

When two people tried to steal a six pack of beer, the store clerk stopped them and said he was going to call 911. Before he could reach for the phone, he got a ukulele to the head.

The man and woman were trying to get away with some Olde English beer Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. at a gas station near the intersection of Delridge Way SW and SW Myrtle Street.

The clerk saw scheme and told the pair to put the beer back and that he would call 911. When an argument ensued, the man hit the clerk with his ukulele, shattering the instrument and cutting the victim’s scalp.

When police arrived at the scene, the victim was bleeding profusely from the back of his head.

The two suspects had already fled the scene.

“Officers were able to get a vague description of the suspects from the victim who was taken to an area hospital,” said Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt.

The suspects were described as a man and a woman, both white, around 22 years old. The case is now under investigation by the Seattle Police Robbery Unit.
