Two big games on Friday evening in Seattle will definitely generate extra traffic, and probably cause some headaches, too.
The Seattle Mariners kick off their series against the Oakland A’s at 7:10 p.m. at Safeco Field.
Just 20 minutes later, and a few hundred feet north, the Seattle Sounders FC will take on Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.
Those hoping to commute through Seattle unscathed should plan on leaving early and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destination.
But if you’re braving the traffic to head to one of the games, there is some good news.
KIRO Radio traffic reporter Kimi Kline says extra trips have been added to the Sound Transit Link Light Rail.
“But you’ll still want to leave early,” says Kline. “Park-and-ride lots near the light rail stops will fill up quickly.”
While it has seemed like attendance hasn’t been that high at recent Mariners games, 710 ESPN’s Danny O’Neil expects their series with the A’s to big a draw. “That’s the team the Mariners are chasing in the American League West standings. If the Mariners pass the A’s, they’re going to make the playoffs. I’m really convinced of that, regardless of what happens with Detroit.”
