Parishioners were greeted by ugly graffiti when they showed up for Easter services Sunday at Seattle’s St. James Cathedral. Vandals sprayed red paint on a statue of the Virgin Mary.
The vandals also scrawled “The Catholic Church was not born in the USA” across a wall.
“This cathedral has been here for well over 100 years and it’s such a part of Seattle that it makes us sad to see it,” Archbishop Peter Sartain tells KING 5.
Sartain said that police are investigating the case and considering it for hate crime status.
There are currently no suspects. But the Archbishop said if they are caught, he’ll forgive them for the vandalism.
