Oso mudslide death toll 37; community meets to discuss future of SR 530

Apr 15, 2014, 8:53 AM | Updated: 10:13 am

The death toll of the Oso mudslide has reached 37. Thirty-six of those victims have been identified.

The search continues for the bodies of six people still missing from the March 22 landslide. The 37th victim has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, Washington State Department of Transportation says it could take one to three months to clear debris from the mile-long stretch of Highway 530 covered by the Oso mudslide.

It blocks direct access between Darrington and the Interstate 5 corridor.

The department of transportation and Snohomish County are holding more meetings about Highway 530 Tuesday evening at the Oso Community Chapel and Wednesday evening at the Stillaguamish Senior Center in Arlington.

Governor Inslee has issued a directive that all flags at state facilities be lowered to half-staff Tuesday and remain lowered until the end of the day on Tuesday, April 22 or first thing Wednesday morning, April 23.

The directive also urges other government entities, citizens and businesses to join in this recognition.
