Cold Case: The Pinnacle Lake Trail Killings
Nearly two decades after a mother and daughter were shot and killed on a remote hiking trail in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, their family is still searching for answers.
On July 11, 2006, Mary Cooper and her adult daughter Susanna Stodden headed out on what was supposed to be a routine hike. Heavy snow forced a change of plans, and the pair ended up on the Pinnacle Lake Trail. They never came home.
Mary's husband and Susanna's father, David Stodden, spoke with KIRO Newsradio about the day everything changed — the calls that went unanswered, the late-night knock from detectives, and the years he spent under suspicion.
Now, David is pointing to one specific clue he says wasn't shared widely enough with the public: a speeding red car reported coming down the Pinnacle Lake Trail Road the day of the murders.
