Ross: Special counsel could do full colonoscopy of Trump tax return

From candidate, to president, to martyr.

“Look at the way I’ve been treated lately. No politician in history has been treated worse or more unfairly.”

That line from President Trump’s speech Wednesday to Coast Guard cadets tells me that he is not the least bit fazed by the special counsel now investigating his campaign.

He sees the investigation as proof of just how afraid of him the rigged political establishment is.

Now, as for being the worst treated politician in history, I think the ghost of Richard Nixon might have something to say about that.

What you can say is that no modern Administration has gotten into this much legal trouble this early. He’s 117 days in and is already facing a special counsel, with the power to subpoena him and do a full colonoscopy of his tax returns.

My guess is that he will wear each subpoena like a military ribbon.

If — as he has consistently predicted — the investigation finds nothing, and the Russian connection does turn out to be fake news, he emerges as a colossus.

That’s one scenario. But, he could also go full Nixon and fire the special counsel, which he has the right to do. And it occurs to me that if he really loses his temper, he might be sorely tempted to keep last October’s promise to Hillary Clinton.

“If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been anything like it.”

Cable news can only hope.

When does a protest cross the line? I can answer that. When it devolves into violence, obviously it crosses a line.

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?
