Washington State Patrol responds to no shortage of strange calls. That held true over the Fourth of July holiday, when troopers were called to a scene of a collision with a bear in Mason County.

WDFW: Take photo, then scare bears out of your backyard

The incident occurred when a car collided with what appeared to be a black bear on SR 101, at Purdy Cutoff Road, between Brockdale and Skokomish.

The bear displayed no obvious signs of injury as troopers arrived on the scene. Oddly enough, it peacefully approached a WSP vehicle. Shortly after that, things deescalated.

“After telling their side of the story, the bear refused aid and wandered back into the woods,” Trooper Chelsea Hodgson Tweeted.

There’s no word yet from the bear’s lawyer as to whether it plans on filing a claim.
