Summer weather looks to be here for long while

Jul 5, 2013, 7:27 AM | Updated: 12:17 pm

July 5 is usually considered the unofficial start to summer in the Seattle area. And the National Weather Service says we should have plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures the next couple of months.

Forecasters predict mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70’s to near 80 through Sunday. There’s just a slight chance of some scattered showers Sunday night, with most precipitation in the North Cascades.

And after that it looks like the trend will continue, says meteorologist Kirby Cook with the National Weather Service.

“The outlook for the rest of the summer is a higher chance for below normal precipitation and a good chance of normal temperatures, so it should be a pretty good summer,” he says.

Cook says we could get another round of above normal temperatures in the next two weeks as well, based on current computer models.

“It’s been pretty nice and dry since May. And all indications are that will continue for the foreseeable future,” Cook says.

The NWS is forecasting highs in the 80’s next week.
