Amber Alert update

Bellingham police have located a missing 9-year-old girl from British Columbia at a local Catholic church. She was reportedly found with her mother.

An Amber Alert was posted for the missing child, Makayla Estrada Weber on Monday. The car noted in the Amber Alert was spotted at a Bellingham motel hours later. Her mother reportedly took her during a custody visit on the prior evening.

The Bellingham Herald reports that the gray 2003 Toyota Corolla was spotted at the Coachman Inn at 120 North Samish Way Monday afternoon. Bellingham police confirmed by Twitter that Makayla and her mother were located at a Catholic church in the city.

Amber Alert: Makayla Estrada Weber

Police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 9-year-old girl last seen in Blaine, WA. She might be traveling in a 2003, gray Toyota Corolla 4-door car with license plates 228MJT.

Authorities are searching for 9-year-old Makayla Estrada Weber who was last seen in Blaine, but is a resident of New Westminster, BC.

Makayla is 4’5″ tall, and about 60 pounds. She is Filipino with dark brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark pants. She was reported missing at 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

The child suffers from selective mutism. She has the ability to speak, but she is extremely shy and will not likely ask for help from strangers if she requires it.

Police believe Wilma Estrada, 48, may have taken the girl from her home in British Columbia and crossed the US-Canadian border. Makayla was taken during a custody visit, according to the Bellingham Herald. Estrada is Filipino, 5’2″ tall, and about 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white jacket and blue jeans, black rain boots and was carrying a purse.

Estrada is suspected to have taken Makayla contrary to a custody order rendered in the Provincial Court of British Columbia.

The Amber Alert notes that the suspect’s intentions are unknown and police fear for the child’s safety.

If you have any information about the location of the child, suspect or car call 911 or 253-538-3240.
