Alki Asked for Help. The Mayor's Advisor Gave a Lecture.
At an Alki Community Council meeting last week, residents asked for better lighting, cameras, and a plan for next Fourth of July. Mayor Katie Wilson's public safety director Alison Holcomb answered: "I get it, you just want to send everybody to jail." A resident in the front row answered her back with six words: "We just want to be safe."
Holcomb also told the room no camera has ever prevented a crime. Forty years of research says otherwise.
