Shortly after a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck Wednesday night, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office tweeted: “We felt that one!” Well, so did thousands of other people.
The Emergency Management Division of Washington reports more than 2,200 reported feeling the shaking near Belfair in Mason County.
The earthquake struck around 9 p.m. The epicenter was about 8.7 miles west of the city and 10.3 miles deep.
A number of aftershocks were recorded as well.
Not long after the quake struck near Belfair a magnitude 4.4 shook off the coast of Vancouver Island, the CBC reports.
According to Natural Resources Canada, the quake struck southwest of Port Alice, B.C.
Though the quake near Belfair reportedly set off car alarms, the USGS’ ShakeMap shows only light to moderate shaking from Wednesday’s quake.
