Raiders fan might be an undercover Seattle cop

Aug 29, 2013, 10:20 AM | Updated: 8:53 pm

Seattle police plan to go undercover to take action against violent or threatening fans outside CenturyLink Field.

Unruly fans are typically on their best behavior when they see a uniformed cop.

“What we’re doing is taking some of our officers, we’re putting them in plain-clothes and they’re going to be wearing opposition jerseys,” said Sgt. Sean Whitcomb. “If there’s someone who’s engaged in behavior that’s harassing or intimidating or threatening, it’s something that we can address immediately because it might actually be directed at us.”

The undercover work is in addition to regular patrols by officers in uniform.

Whitcomb said police received complaints toward the end of last season about fan-on-fan violence and intimidation.

Police began the undercover efforts at Thursday night’s preseason game against the Raiders.
