Seattle Took in 40% More in Taxes and Wants More?!
Seattle's general fund is taking in 40% more than it did in 2019 — past $2 billion a year — and the city is still projecting a $175 million deficit next year. Median Seattle household income is up about 16% over the same stretch. This November, voters will be asked to raise the sales tax for transit and boost the library levy, on top of six straight years of property tax levies.
Councilmember Bob Kettle is one of the few in City Hall trying to add it all up. He proposed a small trim to the transit measure. He got zero votes. Charlie Harger on the total bill nobody at City Hall is handing you.
