Two Blue Cities Are Getting Fentanyl Dealers Out of Housing
Portland and San Francisco — two cities nobody's going to accuse of a red-state crackdown — have both drawn a line right where the problem actually lives. Portland is now charging fentanyl dealers working inside public housing federally, where five-year sentences are the floor. San Francisco just passed an ordinance requiring new city-funded supportive housing to be drug-free.
Meanwhile, Seattle keeps trying at 12th and Jackson, and the corner keeps winning. The SODA law was used more than 100 times last year and once so far in 2025 under a new city attorney who ran on ending it.
