The Ballot Warning That Could Kill the Income Tax Repeal

An anonymous watchdog account on X called MintyHawk went viral this weekend walking through the statute behind the ballot warning attached to Washington's income tax repeal initiative.

Before the initiative fight ever started, the 2022 legislature built a system that requires the Attorney General to print a sentence on the ballot warning voters that repeal will "decrease funding" for schools, colleges, and healthcare — a warning about revenue the state hasn't collected yet.
