The Communication Failure After the Bite of Seattle Shooting
Three people are dead and four wounded, including a two-year-old boy, after a shooting Sunday at the Bite of Seattle at Seattle Center. Police now say at least two people were shooting at each other in broad daylight, surrounded by families.
It took five hours for anyone in a position of authority to give the public basic information about whether the threat was ongoing. Retired Washington State Patrol public information officer Bob Calkins called it an epic communication failure. Chief Shon Barnes was out of town. And when a reporter asked him about it Monday, he got in the reporter's face, on camera. Charlie Harger on a leadership problem that existed before the first shot was fired.
