A casual chat about weekend plans with his producer has KIRO Radio host Dori Monson very concerned about a new trend that’s apparently developed: men attending baby showers.

“This is wrong,” said Dori when he heard his producer, Jake, would be attending a couple’s baby shower.

Jake explained the shower is being thrown for a couple he and his wife know who are expecting their first child. Men were invited and he can’t really get out of it.

“I don’t have a choice to go. I have to go to this thing because my wife RSVP’d,” said Jake. “I also tried to not go and she said I couldn’t not go.”

But Dori said there’s no way as a man he’d get caught at a baby shower.

“It is time for you to put your foot down,” he said, adding that it’s a time-honored tradition that men get to have a guy’s night when their mates are off at showers.

“The best thing about being your age, and believe me there are many things I am envious of your youth, but one of the best things is that you have friends of child-bearing age, and that, that gets you a free night when your wife goes to the baby showers.”

Jake said that sounds great, but in his case, there’s really no getting out of it now. “I love my wife and she wants me to go to a baby shower. I’m going to go.”

But Dori remains adamantly against it. “I find this a disturbing trend if baby showers are now couples activities.”
