How Congress Just Cut the Price of a Manufactured Home
You don't see much bipartisan work in Congress anymore. The Senate voted 85-5 and the House voted 358-32 on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The president declined to sign it, and it became law anyway on July 11.
Tucked inside is the repeal of a 1974 rule requiring every manufactured home to be built on a permanent steel chassis — a rule that added thousands to every unit and, for 50 years, gave cities an excuse to zone these homes out of most neighborhoods.
