Why SR 202 Is Closing Before the Next Rainy Season
The Snoqualmie River came dangerously close to washing out SR 202 near Fall City. Storms in December and March eroded about 15 feet of ground between the riverbank and the highway, and now WSDOT is racing to stabilize the embankment before the next rainy season.
Repairs get underway Wednesday. For the first two days, SR 202 will be down to alternating traffic between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Then the road shuts down completely from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Drivers passing through will face a 16-mile detour using Snoqualmie Parkway, I-90, and the Preston-Fall City Road. Expect delays of at least 45 minutes. Anyone heading to games at Preston Park fields should also plan for heavy congestion.
