A Sound Transit Project Ahead of Schedule? Really.
Sound Transit isn't exactly known for being on time, but it's about to open the Pinehurst Station at I-5 and 130th in north Seattle on Sept. 30—about five years ahead of the original 2031 schedule.
The Sound Transit Board decided to accelerate the project so it could be built alongside the Lynnwood extension, and it paid off. This is the first in-fill station for light rail, filling the gap between Northgate and Shoreline South at 145th Street.
Sound Transit expects 2,600 to 4,200 daily boardings once the full system is built out. There's no parking garage—by design. This is a neighborhood station, similar to Columbia City or Othello in the Rainier Valley. The new King County Metro Route 77 will provide direct access.
