Larch Madness on SR 20: Stunning Trees, Terrible Parking

Thousands of people are flooding SR 20 in the North Cascades for "Larch Madness" — the annual color change that turns the larch trees gold before they drop their needles. The problem: drivers are parking all over the tiny state highway, blocking intersections, crossing the fog line, and walking in the middle of the road to reach trailheads.

WSDOT's Summer Derrey says the system is past capacity on busy weekends, and people are ignoring no-parking signs installed specifically because of this problem. Washington State Patrol is sending troopers to hand out $50 tickets and tow illegally parked cars. KIRO Newsradio's Chris Sullivan has the details on what to expect if you're heading up for the final days of peak color.
