Hour-Long Delays Coming to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Two big traffic stories today.

First, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. WSDOT is shutting down the two right westbound lanes starting 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, through Nov. 8 for a partial expansion joint replacement. The Jackson Avenue on-ramp will also close. These are 24-hour closures—the lanes can't reopen during the work because the bridge moves. Expect delays up to an hour, especially during afternoon commutes. The HOV lane will be open to all. This is just the beginning—three of four expansion joints on the 76-year-old bridge will be fully replaced next year.

Second, I-5 at 145th in Shoreline could be fully shut down for one night in November—either Nov. 7 or Nov. 14—to place the new pedestrian bridge connecting to the Pinehurst light rail station. All lanes close by midnight, and the freeway should be fully open by 6 a.m.
