Cold Case: What Really Happened to Kelly McGinniss?
This week's Cold Case Project focuses on Kelly McGinniss, who was just 18 years old when she disappeared in 1983. Her remains have never been found, but she is presumed deceased.
An infamous serial killer, the Green River Killer, claimed responsibility for her death. But investigators believe that confession may have been self-serving, made to avoid the death penalty rather than based on actual involvement.
Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound Executive Director Jim Fuda, who was an officer assigned to the area 43 years ago, walks through Kelly's story. She ran away at 13, was pulled into the sex trade, and was last seen leaving the Three Bears Motel on Pacific Highway South on the night of June 28, 1983 to do sex work. She never returned. Her boyfriend reported her missing two days later.
"Even if you think some of your information is not relevant, please pass it on. Let the detectives decide." — Jim Fuda
